Surgery

Of course the tried and true method of cancer therapy has always been the, surgical removal of the cancer. In the male, if there is prostate cancer this, of course,, requires the removal of the entire prostate gland. In the past, this was a very large and potentially risky procedure. However as time has gone on, we have gotten much more' understanding of the anatomy of the area and as such, are able to do this surgery more safely. We often ask that men donate their own blood however often we require minimal blood transfusion, if any, during the procedure because of better surgical, techniques. In addition, the hospital stay is now down to three to five days. Most men' are able to go home and get back to limited activity within a week after the procedure' and feel quite good. Of course, the answer for the question of "Doctor, where is the' best place to have one's cancer?" is always on the shelf in the pathologist's office. We, feel that some of the new techniques certainly hold a candle to the tried and true, method of surgical removal and as such, are comfortable in offering either therapy for any man who comes into our office seeking advice.
