Dr. Eric
Robert Emanuel, MD is a recent addition to the practice of Drs. Willis and
Melograna in the Washington Metropolitan area. Dr. Emanuel originates from
the Philadelphia area where he attended the Marple Newtown Senior High
School. After graduation from high school, he began his secondary schooling
at the University of Pennsylvania, College of Arts and Sciences where he
majored in Biology. He graduated from the U of PA in 1989, and he pursued his
graduate training at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Subsequent
to his graduation from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Dr.
Emanuel uprooted from the Philadelphia area, moved two hours north and
continued his training at another Ivy League institution, Columbia
University. Dr. Emanuel underwent two years of general surgery training at
Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City. After the general
surgery training he pursued four years of intensive urology training at The
New York Presbyterian Hospital of Columbia and Cornell Universities. During
the years of training at The New York Presbyterian Hospital, Dr. Emanuel had
extensive training in urologic oncology, urologic stone disease, male
infertility, female urology and urogynecology including incontinence,
erectile dysfunction, pediatric urology, minimally invasive urology, urologic
research and many other subspecialties in the field of urology. During his
training in New York, Dr. Emanuel was actively involved in both clinical as
well as laboratory research in addition to his clinical practice. He has been
published in the pediatric literature as well as the oncologic,
reconstructive, and infertility literature. His laboratory research focused
on molecular markers used in the detection of renal cell cancer in the blood
stream. Dr. Emanuel has also presented papers and abstracts on various topics
in urology at a multitude of urologic conferences across the country. Recent
work has focused on the role of cryosurgical ablation of the prostate for the
treatment of localized prostate cancer. Dr. Eric
Emanuel, MD completed his training in New York in July 1999, and he joined
the Washington urologic community also in July 1999. He continues to pursue
academic endeavors within the urologic community both locally and nationally
while building a busy urologic practice in the metropolitan area. He brings
with him from the New York arena a multitude of innovative ideas and a broad
based expertise in urologic care and urologic surgery.
